dodgeball in a church gym
ok. I have most recently gotten into quite a few things...but I will choose now to only speak of..."church people and competitive sporting events"...these two do not mix...I've seen quit a few examples of this...but I will speak of the most recent. Yesterday morning I attended a charity dodgeball tournament held by a local church. I went not as a competitor just an interested fan. I didn't think that it would be that interesting but upon arriving I found a couple of older teams (30-40's) and then some highschool and middleschool teams and then one team of twentyish aged people...well let me say that the most ill-behaved group was of course the parents..wow! there was argueing with the ref..there was a nailing of a ball across the court (kicked by a very angry looking dad who was wearing socks up to his knees) there were people who even when hit with the ball wouldnt leave the court..they would claim with complete sincerity on their face that they WERE NOT hit...I was seriously afraid that there would be a fist fight...at one point a young girl declared "everyone quit yelling we're in church"...she seemed honestly upset...I understood... I also understand that as with any game a competitive person cannot keep from being competitive which may lead to cheating and yelling..which is why if I'm going to play a sport it wont be in a church gym....that should be reserved for people who aren't the least bit competitive and probably not athletic and they just play for fun...otherwise...things get out of hand! If I nail you in the face with a ball don't you think you'll want revenge? Well in church league they expect turn the other cheek type of behavior..UM NO! I will win!
